Pink Bandhej suit with dupatta laid out carefully

Your Bandhej suit or dupatta is a handcrafted piece — every dot on it was tied by a human hand. With the right care, the colours stay vibrant and the fabric retains its texture for many years. Here are eight essential tips from our workshop in Sawai Madhopur.

1. First Wash Separately

New Bandhej fabric may release a small amount of colour in the first wash. Always wash it separately the first time to prevent staining other clothes.

2. Use Cold Water Only

Hot water weakens the dye bonds and can cause colours to bleed or fade. Always use cold or room-temperature water for washing Bandhej.

3. Hand Wash Gently

Machine washing can distort the tiny tied dots and damage the fabric structure. Hand washing with a gentle swirling motion is always preferable.

4. Use Mild Detergent

Harsh detergents strip colour from natural dyes. Use a mild soap or a detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics.

5. Do Not Wring

Wringing can tear the fabric and distort the Bandhej pattern. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and then lay flat to dry.

6. Dry in Shade

Direct sunlight fades natural dyes rapidly. Always dry Bandhej fabric in a shaded, well-ventilated area.

7. Iron on Low Heat, Inside Out

If ironing is needed, turn the garment inside out and use the lowest heat setting. High heat can scorch the fabric and flatten the characteristic textured dots of Bandhej.

8. Store Properly

Store Bandhej garments folded in muslin cloth or a cotton bag. Avoid plastic bags, which trap moisture and can cause mildew. Add a few drops of lavender oil on a cotton ball in the storage box to keep insects away naturally.

Following these simple steps will keep your Baaisa Bandhej pieces looking as vivid as the day you received them.
